WHAT DOES FREE GIRLS YOGA DO?
We offer yoga classes in high schools and community centers for girls completely FREE!
Girls will learn to empower themselves through:
- Building a sensitive, positive relationship with their precious bodies.
- Getting their bodies healthy and strong physically.
- Working with their mind and emotions through yoga.
- Developing healthy relationships, first to themselves and then with others.
- Getting girls to take full responsibility for their overall health, wellbeing and happiness by giving them the tools to get in the drivers seat of their lives and become self-empowered in every aspect of who they are!
FREE GIRLS YOGA teaches girls empower themselves through yoga postures, breath exercises and contemplation/meditation techniques. The practice of yoga will help girls deal with body image issues, stress, anxiety, depression and other issues our young girls face today.
When a girl does this practice she can feel good about who she is, what she desires in life and have the power to express it.

THE FOUNDER
Hi I am Elke.
I am a yoga teacher, artist and mother to a little girl.
I am a woman who feels very passionately about the importance of supporting girls and giving them the tools to empower themselves to express their fullest potential in life. And I believe yoga is the tool to help girls do this…
As my body changed while a teen girl, I began to deal with insecurities with my female body and many body image issues. These issues became an obsession as I got older with trying to fit an ideal mold of beauty as a girl and trying to be thinner than was natural for me. A problem that is indeed increasing by the year amongst our teen girl population!
I began a regular yoga practice at 20. Yoga gave me the ability to begin to work through these insecurities unlike any other modality I have come across. I have been practicing and studying in the yoga tradition under the guidance of my teacher for over 12 years learning through yoga how to empower myself as a girl and now as a woman.
In my early twenties, I recognized that practicing Yoga Dharma and service were the orienting factors in my life, therefore I moved to Berkeley California to delve deeper into studies in the hatha yoga tradition and partake in the DHARMA INC 7 Year Yogic Studies Program of which I became a graduate in 2008.
In 2009 I relocated to DHARMA INC’s international headquarters, Kailash Akhara in Thailand, a permaculture and yoga retreat and study center. Here, I committed more fervently to practice and studies. Over 4 years I was a participant in a full time teacher training program covering hatha yoga, meditation, kriya yoga, ayurveda, yogic psychotherapy, chanting, sanskrit, vedic ritual and sacred dharma art while contributing to the worldwide efforts of DHARMA INC’s service initiatives.
I now live back in my beautiful home town on the Northern Beaches of Sydney after many years studying and practicing abroad.
I was inspired by the work of my teacher and the luminaries of the yoga tradition to use yoga as a means of service for the betterment of the community.
I wish to see FREE GIRLS YOGA become easily accessible to all teen girls and allow them to have the ability to attain the benefits of yoga for themselves. To see them learn the methods to be able to deal with stresses in life and any challenges they may face and to bring out their greatest power as girls.
